Kootenay Lake is home to the world famous
Gerrard Rainbow Trout that have been known to reach a weight of up to 16
kg or 35 Ibs. There is also an abundance of Bull Trout (also known as
Dolly Varden) that can weight up to 9kg. or 20 Ibs. Other sport fish
available in Kootenay Lake are the great eating Kokanee weighing up to
1.25 kg / 3 lbs.
Kootenay Mist
Charters
provides all the latest fishing gear and tackle
with up to date electronics
and safety equipment. Depending on the
time of year, water temperature and weather conditions, your veteran
Kootenay Lake fishing guide Al Lowes will determine the best application
to use during your time aboard the Kootenai Mist.
Surface Fishing
For surface
fishing, the Kootenai Mist is equipped with 15 ft out-riggers that have proven to be most effective for helping to sink the
hook in the event of a big
strike as well as keeping lines separated
to avoid any problems with tangling. Depending on the weather
conditions and water temperature, using out-riggers with Bucktail
Fly's are commonly used on Kootenay lake and proven very effective. Of
course we make it a practice
to keep all our hooks " sticky sharp" to take full advantage of all possibilities to land
that trophy. The Great Gerrard
Rainbow is well known for it's very hard mouth and ability to shake
the hook from many a fisherman.
Deep Water Fishing
When the Depth sounder indicates the fish to be deeper, the Kootenai Mist is also
equipped with top of the line electric downriggers that take your lure
down to where the fish are. We often fish
the surface and troll with the downriggers simultaneously to maximize
the possibility of landing a fish.
